Behind the Numbers
The Organisation Représentative des Etudiants de l’UMons focuses primarily on advocating for the rights and interests of students. Its core mission revolves around representing the student body in institutional decision-making and ensuring that their voices are heard at all levels. While the Union has shown strength in its advocacy efforts, there is room for improvement in providing services that directly benefit students.
The Union provides advisory support, organizes regular events, and actively maintains its social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram.
The Organization Représentative des Etudiants de l’UMons is a member of the Fédération des Étudiant-e-s francophones (FEF). The union actively participates in advocacy campaigns organized by the FEF and organizes its own campaigns to improve the lives of students. The union effectively uses its structural power to defend students’ interests within the school’s decision-making structures. The union tries to cooperate with the city authorities in its advocacy campaigns, but its efforts are not always successful. The union does not publish its rules and regulations on its website.
The Tweaks
The Union emphasizes giving advice on how to appeal exams. Offering mediation/legal aid as a consistent service would be a logical step. It would also be helpful to publish a more detailed structure and responsibilities of the Union on the website, in addition to publishing the full rules and regulations that govern the work of the Union.
