Behind the Numbers
The Conseil des Etudiants de l’IAD is one of the smallest unions on the Index, representing only about 500 students. And yet it made it into the top 10 of university-based student unions. How did it do that? By being active on social media, providing several important services, and representing its students well. This Union is an example that it is possible to be an effective student union by using the resources available + enthusiasm.
The Union provides occasional legal/mediation assistance, counseling assistance, and occasional financial assistance in the form of loans, organizes extracurricular activities, and has active social media accounts. There are also non-regular services such as psychological support, welcome kits and sweaters.
The Conseil des Etudiants de l’IAD is a member of the Fédération des étudiant-e-s francophones (FEF) and regularly meets with students at consultations and roundtables to learn about their problems and communicate their concerns to the school administration. The Union participates in the advocacy campaigns organized by the FEF.
The Tweaks
The Union used to have a website, but it is no longer active. It would be useful to restore it in order to make the information about the activities of the Union more permanent and accessible.
