Behind the numbers
The Fédération des étudiants de l’Uliège wins the bronze medal in the 2024 edition of the Index for its ability to innovate. It may not provide all the typical services that other student unions do, but looks for new ways to help its students. This deserves praise and further analysis of the Union’s merits.
The Fédération des étudiants de l’Uliège offers a range of support services to its students: psychological support, financial support, academic advice, legal and mediation support, as well as occasional events for students. The Union is active on Facebook and Instagram, and its office can be contacted by telephone. The Union also provides financial support to student associations.
The Fédération des étudiants de l’Uliège is not a member of the Fédération des étudiant-e-s francophones (FEF). The description of the Union’s roles and practices is available on its website. The union successfully uses its structural power within the university and carries out advocacy campaigns. There seems to be a track record of successful advocacy campaigns in recent years. The Union is not involved in community governance.
Excellence
The Fédération des étudiants de l’Uliège receives its star of excellence for thinking outside the box. The union provides IT services, including computer repair and the loan of laptops to students. There are free menstrual products for students under 26. The Union has a partner NGO, La Mâson, which provides financial support for student initiatives that contribute to the cultural and social enrichment of university life.
Taken individually, these initiatives may seem trivial, but together they form a comprehensive support network that addresses students’ needs beyond academics and fosters a well-rounded campus environment.

The idea of having the website available in many languages is a good one, but the automatic translation done by Google is not the best option. It is preferable to manually translate at least the main pages and menu items. If there is a track record of successful advocacy campaigns, this should be posted online to highlight the tangible impact of the Union on students’ lives.
